Choosing an event planning or management certification program for your specific career goals can be stressful, which is why we've outlined a variety of different certifications and training programs that you may want to look into for more information. Professional Certifications

1. Certified Meetings Professional (CMP)

A lot of corporate meetings require event planning and management assistance from professionals who understand event strategy and logistics. With a CMP, you can show your knowledge and capabilities in site management, strategic planning, event marketing and design, and other content areas. A healthcare-focused CMP is also available. 

2. Global Travel Professional (GTP)

For the event professional looking to boost their career in the business travel industry, the GTP certification from the Global Business Travel Association demonstrates expertise in the field. The exam covers a wide range of topics such as negotiating with suppliers, managing the financial aspects of overseas events, and more. 

3. Certified Quality Event Planner (CQEP)

The Management and Strategy Institute organizes this event planning certification around event planning fundamentals. If you are wondering about how to get certified in event planning, the CQEP is a good place to start with the foundational knowledge that most event planners need for success. Planning, creating a budget, using a storyboard with event planning and more are topics you'll learn about as you study for this certification. 

4. Certified Event Planning Specialist (CEPS)

A good certification for new professionals entering the event planning field. The 30-question exam required for the certification helps you demonstrate your entry-level knowledge of event planning. You don't need to take any courses or have industry work experience to take the test. 

5. Certification in Meeting Management (CMM)

A program by University of Virginia instructors who teach you the business management skills you need to help manage successful meetings. At the end of the coursework required for the CMM event planning license, you are required to complete a project to demonstrate your professional skills. 

6. Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP)

The International Live Events Association offers this event coordinator certification. The program is offered four times every year and applicants are expected to have at least three years of professional work experience in event planning. Keeping your certification requires certifying again every five years so you can stay updated on changes in the industry. 

7. Digital Event Strategist (DES)

Online event planning is different and has its own challenges. The DES allows you to become a certified event planner for virtual events, an increasingly important area of expertise these days. You have the opportunity to demonstrate existing skills, take an online course to develop new digital event skills, and take an exam to test your knowledge. 

8. Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM)

The International Association of Exhibitions and Events use this certification to enable professionals to show their expertise in managing exhibitions for corporate clients and employers. You have up to three years from the start of their training program to complete the nine classes and exams required for certification. Graduating gives you networking opportunities and a valuable knowledge base to draw from as a professional. 

9. Professional Certified Marketer (PCM)

From the American Marketing Association, this certification helps you understand and show skill in the marketing practices necessary to create and manage successful events. They offer several different learning tracks to choose from, making it easier to find a marketing area that resonates with you. For instance, the Digital Marketing track could be a strong asset for event planners and managers to show expertise in. 

10. Certified Trade Show Marketer (CTSM)

Certified Trade Show Marketers (CTSMs) are event professionals specializing in marketing corporate trade show events. If you work in the business travel industry or manage a lot of industry events, the CTSM event organizer certification may be particularly valuable to you. 

11. Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP)

Professionals with this certification show they have the relevant background necessary to successfully plan government meetings. This diploma in event planning could help you stand out by showing that you know this niche industry. There's a lot to know about how federal budgets work that a typical meeting professional might not be familiar with. Learn the ropes by taking a three-day course with a comprehensive exam. 

12. Certified Professional in Catering and Events (CPCE)

The National Association for Catering and Events created the CPCE for professionals who plan and manage events with complex catering and logistics. You can show a broad range of industry knowledge by obtaining this certification, so it may be worthwhile for professionals at every level to earn a CPCE.

13. MBA in International Hotel Management with Specialization in Events Management

A two-year, full-time program onsite in Europe that prepares graduates for hospitality events management careers. This could be a great degree program for professionals interested in managing corporate events in a hotel setting. Offered by the Vatel International Business School of Hotel and Tourism Management. English and French programs are available. 

14. MBA in Tourism, Leisure, and Event Management

Groupe ESC Troyes in Champagne offers an MBA for event management professionals. With a specialization in luxury tourism, you can learn to manage events with a focus on the details luxury clients need. This two-year program is taught in English and located in France. 

15. Hospitality and Event Management Certificate from Lasell College

Offering a graduate-level certificate for working professionals, Lasell College in Newton, MA teaches organizational management, marketing, events management skills and more. 

16. George Washington University Event Management Professional Certificate

Available fully-online, in-person in Washington DC or in a combination of in-person and online courses, you can complete a certificate that will provide you with the professional education and practical experience you need to manage events of any size.

19. Falmouth University's Online Masters Degree in Creative Events Management

20. University of San Diego's Event Management Certificate

An onsite certificate program with the University of San Diego that uses group projects and courses to teach practical skills in event management.
