DoubleDutch Shows Support for the LGBTQ Community

This summer will mark my 5 year anniversary with DoubleDutch. Leading up to this milestone, I’ve found myself reflecting on my time here and what has me coming back every day.

One thing really stands out to me - our incredible culture of inclusion and change that is uniquely rooted in San Francisco values. As a member of the LGBTQ community it’s important the company I work for embraces and supports who I am completely.

Slowly but surely America is shifting its mindset toward greater inclusion of the LGBTQ community. In 2015 we saw same-sex marriage legalized in the US and 71% of Americans in favor of LGBTQ non-discrimination laws.

Despite very promising trends, there’s still work to be done. States like Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina have recently made headlines for legislature that is discriminatory in nature.

Living in San Francisco and working for a company like DoubleDutch, it’s easy to forget others in the nation still face discrimination. I realize, now more than ever, inclusion and diversity is not something I should take for granted. Many LGBTQ Americans still have to fight for equal protection under the law every single day.

To combat hate with kindness, DoubleDutch is working diligently to provide support for any of our customers taking a stand against discrimination by relocating their events out of North Carolina in protest of the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act. Our team will be working with these customers to manage any of the necessary changes to their mobile apps because we believe in equality — in the workplace and your personal life.

At DoubleDutch, we pride ourselves on our strong core values — be remarkable, be fearless, be passionate, be transparent, and above all else, don’t be an asshole. These values and the values intrinsic to the LGBTQ community have considerable overlap. We celebrate taking risks (be fearless) and being our best self (be remarkable). We discuss issues openly (be transparent) and accept our differences (no assholes allowed). We are passionate about what we believe in.

These values naturally lend themselves to a group of individuals who are supportive of all walks of life. To date, DoubleDutch has had team members volunteer for various activities like partnering with The Trevor Project and Lesbians who Tech to bring a new energy to their events, or walking with The United States Tennis Association, one of our customers, in the San Francisco Pride Parade.

This year, DoubleDutch is focusing our efforts to fight for LGTBQ equality even further. We’ve recently formed an alliance network for both members of the LGBTQ community and their straight allies who support them, named Pride Square.

Our goal for the group is twofold. First, facilitate a network within DoubleDutch to support each other and bring broader awareness of the LGBTQ experience to the company. And second, to actively contribute our time and resources to help the community at large.

We’re still in the early stages of planning, but are looking forward to hosting guest speakers to discuss LGBTQ issues in the workplace, working with local service organizations and figuring out how we can elevate global events like Pride Month with a mobile experience. If you’re interested in speaking or have service opportunities we’d love to hear from you!

I personally want to thank those customers taking a stand against discrimination for making what is undoubtedly a difficult and expensive decision. We understand how tirelessly you work to bring magic to your events, and want you to know your mobile app is one less thing to worry about.

I’m proud DoubleDutch is willing to show support for equal rights. This is a place where anyone can be themselves. If you're interested in working for that kind of company, we're hiring. Come join us.
