Event Apps Take the Work Out of Networking

Want someone to pick you up? There’s an app for that! Want your groceries delivered? There’s an app for that! Want someone to join you for dinner? There’s an app for that! Okay, you get the idea... In a world where the layers of our physical and digital reality are tightly intertwined, it’s no surprise event professionals are leveraging digital tools to maximize event engagement.

Let’s face it, most of us rely heavily on the apps that live on our mobile devices. Event attendees are no different; between 65% and 100% of attendees download and engage with DoubleDutch apps during events. In fact, our event technology has some of the highest engagement metrics across many apps. Throughout the days before, during, and after the event, attendees spend an average of 35 minutes per day in DoubleDutch, competing with the Facebooks, Instagrams and Snapchats of the world as one of the most frequently used apps.

As a Customer Success Management team, we work closely with clients across all industries to create engagement strategies and recommend best practices, helping #eventprofs achieve and exceed their overall event goals. No matter the event type, occasion, size or location, 99% of customers tell us that one of their top goals is to encourage and enable networking.

So, how can you use this knowledge to take the work out of networking at your event?

Let’s recap. Attendees go to events to meet like-minded people. Over 65% of those attendees download DoubleDutch and spend an average of 35 minutes per day using the event app. That’s a powerful formula! By choosing to leverage DoubleDutch, you’ve created a direct medium for your attendees to easily meet other like-minded people, attending the same event, in the same building. But, you can take it a step further and transform your app from a dynamic event resource into an easy-to-use, cutting-edge live networking tool. Here’s how:

Show the Attendee List

Make sure the attendee list is visible and near the top of your app menu so everyone can see who’s at the event. When attendees select to follow other attendees, the app automatically suggests similar people to follow.

Create Topic Channels

Create dedicated channels for the topics your attendees are interested in. Attendees can join channels and participate in the conversation with other event goers with shared interests.

You can also have a speaker or team member moderate the channel, adding questions to spark the conversation. Here are a few ideas to get you started- First Time Attendees; Meet our Product Team; Industry Trends; Department Segments; Attendee Regions or Run Club.

Promote Session Channels

Like topic channels, session channels are a dedicated space for attendees to have an open forum discussion during a session. It’s a great way to crowdsource questions for the speaker and share key session learnings while engaging with other attendees participating in the same session.

Enable Direct Messaging

Now bring it all together. When direct messaging is enabled, attendees can chat directly with other attendees whether they meet at breakfast, in a session or through a topic or session channel.

See, it’s easy for you and even easier for your event goers! You have the tools to take the work out of networking, enabling your attendees to make even more invaluable human connections and take their event experience to the next level.
