Four Takeaways from DoubleDutch On Tour DC

This summer the DoubleDutch team is hopping around the globe bringing event technology to the masses with DoubleDutch On Tour.  The half-day events are geared to bring event app education to the forefront, and help event marketers become a true mobile experts.  With the tour launch in San Francisco under our belt, we decided to take on Washington DC.

Washington DC proved to be fantastic second stop, the event took place at Penn Social, a local sports bar with a flare for good old fashion fun in the form of Skee-ball, ping-pong, foosball and bubble hockey.  DoubleDutch customer, Nick Rossi (New Media Strategist/Webmaster for Association of Fundraising Professionals) talked about his experience deploying event apps as well as breakout sessions on iBeacon, event app promotion, what is possible with data and so much more.

Four Takeaways from DoubleDutch On Tour DC

1. Event apps should be more than just static content.

Nick Rossi, of Association of Fundraising Professionals, shared the evolution of AFP's mobile experience.  From the decision to develop a mobile friendly website 3 years earlier, to deploying their first mobile app.  To eventually working with DoubleDutch to create a platform with a primary focus on social and analytics.  Rossi discussed AFP’s success with creating a virtual community that drummed up excitement both pre, during, post event and the insights they were able to gain from the data collected.

2.  We acknowledge we're learning and enhancing everyday.

DoubleDutch Product Manager, Julia Graham, spoke to customers and friends alike on the philosophy we preach and practice at DoubleDutch.  Listen, learn, analyze than act.  It was with enormous excitement Julia was able to announce live polling and a few big product changes on the horizon.

3.  Event app promotion & engagement strategies are super important.

You can have a fantastic mobile app, but without adoption and engagement from your audience it’s hard to determine the ROI.  DoubleDutch Director of Customer Success, Aaron Lapierre, lead a breakout session to help brainstorm app adoption techniques, best practices and how to keep your audience engaged once they are in the app.  Customers of DoubleDutch shared their successes, experiences and answered questions of those currently looking to deploy a mobile app at their next event.

4.  Real-world testing.

Naturally, it wouldn’t be a DoubleDutch event without a dedicated event application.  Event planners & marketers were able to use and experience the DoubleDutch app as their own attendees would, providing enormous insight.  Don’t believe us?
